Description

The Swan Nebula, also known as Omega Nebula, is around 6,000 light-years from Earth and  spans some 15 light-years in diameter. It is considered one of the brightest and most massive star-forming regions of our galaxy with an estimated 800 solar masses.
The open cluster NGC 6618 lies embedded in the nebulosity and causes the gases of the nebula to shine from these hot, young stars. It is also one of the youngest clusters known, with an age of just 1 million years.

The weather has been rotten lately so I have been revisiting data from earlier this year leveraging new tools and techniques in Pixinsight, assisted greatly by the wonderful new Normalised Scale Gradient tool, Starnet and colour masking, and a new PC with a 24 core AMD Thread Ripper PC, beefy Nvidia GPU and 128 Gb of ram. Life if just too damn short.

Narrow Band processing is a garden of forking paths and Starnet and Photometric Colour calibration in particular helps keep the stars colours moderately sane while goes nuts on the nebulosity.   All the latest wonderful technology in Pixinsight still boils down to personal taste in the end.  I just wish the sky would allow me more time for acquisition.
